Conference Description

The AAJC 2007 Community Partners Conference will bring together leaders from different sectors (research, legal, social services, policy) across the nation to begin to evaluate the state of Asia America, and to strategically build a consensus about the direction of Asian Americans interested in advancing equality.

Conference Goals

1.      Enter into intensive discussions on important policy issues with partners at the national and
grassroots levels.

2.      Determine major research, infrastructure and service gaps for the Asian American community.

3.      Determine what resources will be needed at the local and national levels to close gaps and achieve goals.

4.      Produce plans for enhanced collaboration involving local and national organizations in achieving the goals.

Conference Tracks

Language Rights: This track will focus on issues such as cross-cutting and trendsetting practices in language rights, state and local language access acts, leveraging resources for local language rights work, and legislative strategies in strengthening Executive Order 13166, etc.

Civic Engagement: Participants in this track will focus on issues such as voting rights protection and getting out the vote for election 2008, etc.

Immigration: Participants in this track will focus on issues such as lessons learned from the 2007 immigration debate, citizenship and integration of immigrants, and local pro- and anti-immigrant policies, etc.

Race Relations: This track will focus on issues such as hate crime legislation, the End Racial Profiling Act (ERPA), the 25th Anniversary of Vincent Chin murder, and affirmative action, etc.
