In our ongoing fight against bigotry and the hate crimes it breeds, we at AAJC monitor federal hate crimes legislation and push for tougher laws to ensure justice for these heinous acts. Take the January 2007 killing of Hmong hunter Cha Vang in Wisconsin.
AAJC was one of the first groups on the ground in
Green Bay to offer help to the
Hmong community, while applying pressure on authorities to fully prosecute the murder as a hate crime.
By holding radio and television personalities accountable for racist language to the highest level, meanwhile, we are also fomenting an atmosphere of increased tolerance within the public domain. Regrettably, we must remain vigilant on all these fronts; racist attitudes and language are all too common - much to the detriment of our multicultural society.
