James Y. Chiu is the 2008-2010 NAPABA Partners and In-House Counsel Community Law Fellow. He is a staff attorney working in the Asian American Justice Center's Immigration and Immigrant Rights Program.
Mr. Chiu graduated from Georgetown University Law Center in 2007, where he sat on the Board of Georgetown's Asian Pacific American Law Students (APALSA) chapter and assisted with many issues affecting Asian Americans and allied communities. While at Georgetown, he represented clients as a civil rights clinical student in Georgetown Law Center's Institute for Public Representation.
During law school, Mr. Chiu spent his summers at the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, Voting Rights Section, the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia, National Security Section, and the United States Commission on Civil Rights.
Mr. Chiu obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he was active in campus organizing and educational outreach on a wide variety of issues including affirmative action, ethnic studies, hate crimes, sexual assault, and coalition-building.
Mr. Chiu is admitted to practice in the state of Colorado.
