
Ankur J. Goel is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm’s Washington, DC office. As a member of the Firm’s Health Department, Goel concentrates his practice in civil, criminal and administrative enforcement matters and complex civil litigation
Goel has extensive experience conducting internal investigations and defending government investigations and enforcement proceedings in the health care industry. He has defended clients throughout the health industry. For example, he has represented a hospital company in a whistleblower action alleging payments of kickbacks; a hospital company in a whistleblower lawsuit alleging preparation of fraudulent cost reports; individuals targeted in a criminal investigation of payment of kickbacks; and a pharmaceutical company in investigations of illegal payments of kickbacks.
Goel has also represented individuals and companies in significant enforcement proceedings before the Securities and Exchange Commission. He defended a stockbroker in connection with an SEC and criminal fraud investigation; represented the CEO of a public company in an SEC administrative investigation alleging insider trading, failure to properly disclose trading, and manipulation of stock prices; and represented a supervisor at a major brokerage firm in an SEC investigation involving an alleged $350 million fraud conducted by a trader; and represented public companies in defense and settlement of securities fraud class action and shareholder derivative lawsuits.
Before entering private practice, Goel was a federal criminal prosecutor in the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, Fraud Section, where he investigated and prosecuted health care, securities and other fraud matters.
Goel was also Senior Counsel to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee. Goel is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Illinois.
