Sylvester Mendoza Jr.

Sylvester Mendoza Jr. is currently the Senior Director for Global Diversity Strategies at Schering-Plough in New Jersey, leading the pharmaceutical company’s diversity and inclusion strategy and implementation worldwide. Prior to joining Schering, Sylvester was Senior Director, Human Resources & Talent Acquisition at Day & Zimmermann, a diversified business company in Philadelphia.

Sylvester’s extensive experience included a role as Director of Diversity & Talent Acquisition for Quest Diagnostics, Inc., the country’s largest medical laboratory, headquartered in New Jersey.

Before joining Quest Diagnostics, Sylvester held a similar corporate position at Merrill Lynch, Inc. in New York, where he had additional responsibility for equal opportunity and affirmative action programs.  Previously, Mr. Mendoza worked at Hughes Electronics in Los Angeles and with General Telephone of California in a senior Human Resources management capacity.

Sylvester has been an active board member with a number of community-based organizations including the Asian Pacific American Legal Center, Search to Involve Filipino Americans, Los Angeles Southwest College Foundation, and the Los Angeles Project with Industry for Individuals with Disabilities.  He is currently on the Business Advisory Council of the Asian American Justice Center in Washington D.C. He was formerly a member of the Board with the Asian American Federation of New York, and member of the Employment Committee for the Office of Disability Employment Program, U.S. Department of Labor.

His current professional affiliations include The Conference Board, Council on Workforce Diversity and the Organization Resource Counselors, Equal Opportunity Group.

For over 15 years, Sylvester was an instructor at the University of California, Los Angeles extension program, where he taught courses in workforce diversity and equal employment program management.

Sylvester received his BA from California State University, San Francisco and his JD from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. He is an inactive member of the Hawaii State Bar. He also completed the advanced program in Human Resource Management at the University of California, Los Angeles.  Additionally, Mr. Mendoza completed Six Sigma training as a quality process improvement initiative.

Spanning more than 20 years in corporate America, Mr. Mendoza developed an expertise in leading, transforming and managing diversity and inclusion in large, decentralized companies.

In addition to the above, Mr. Mendoza has developed expertise in corporate Alternative Dispute Resolution and Talent Acquisition Programs.
