Peter J. Swing, the Asian American Justice Center’s Web specialist, was formerly the director of communications and donor relations at the Asian Law Caucus (ALC). He was responsible for managing and directing ALC’s internal and external communications, as well as building and maintaining donor relationships. Peter has a versatile journalism and communications background. Previously he was as a reporter for an ethnic newspaper. He has written more than 75 articles related to the Asian American community. He has also designed and published more than 15 major Web sites for various non-profit and news media organizations.

A Marine Corps veteran, Mr. Swing holds a bachelor’s degree, with high honors, from the University of California at Berkeley. There he majored in ethnic studies and was mentored by the late Dr. Ronald Takaki, with whom he worked on his last book, a revision of A Different Mirror. Mr. Swing has served as a guest lecturer on race, multiculturalism and Asian American and ethnic studies at the University of California at Berkeley, the University of San Francisco, San Francisco State University and San Diego City College.

Mr. Swing is a steering committee member for the Korematsu Institute for Civil Rights and Education and the Ronald Takaki Scholar Activist Fellowship. He is active in the Bay Area’s Asian Pacific Islander community, working on events such as the Asian Heritage Street Celebration, Sansei Live!, and the SF Hep B Free Campaign.
